What the First Amendment Addresses

Due to the recent controversy regarding the protest of the National Anthem, I’d like to remind everyone what’s in the First Amendment. However, before I do I will say this: I believe every American who’s able to stand for the National Anthem should.

AMENDMENT I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

The portion which states “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech…”  means that anyone is able to protest as long as it’s peaceful.  Which so far the protests have been peaceful so the players are exercising their First Amendment right.

There’s also the issue of the NFL is a private business and not a government institution, so the government really should not become involved.
